Pet Licenses

Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code of the City of Washington, Kansas, requires that dogs/cats residing within the city limits of Washington be registered with the city.

Pet licenses are due before June 1, and must be renewed annually.

Pet licenses may be purchased at City Hall upon presentation of proof of rabies vaccination, and payment of fees. 

Fees:

Male/Female   $10.00 per animal

Spayed/Nuetered  $5.00 per animal

Pet licenses not purchased before June 1 are subject to $15.00 late fee.

Toto's Bark Park

Toto's Bark Park was built in 2019 by a group of volunteers who wanted a place for their furry friends to run and play.  Toto's Bark Park is located at 908 D Street, just south of the Emergency Services Building.  The park features two fenced in areas, one for smaller animals and one for larger animals.  

Benches provide a place for the humans to sit and watch their furbabies run and play. 

Waste stations and receptacles are provided, and owners are required to clean up after their pets.

Does the City of Washington have a "leash law"?

Yes.  According to Chapter 2 of the Code of the City of Washington, Kansas, it shall be unlawful for the owner of any dog/cat to permit such dog/cat to run at large within the corporate limits of the city at anytime. "At Large" is defined as: Any dog/cat shall be deemed to be at large when it is off the premises occupied by the owner’s household as their abode and when not accompanied by its owner on a leash.
