Health Care is provided by two hospitals, three medical doctors, apractitioner nurse, two dentists, two optometrists and onechiropractor. Two nursing homes provide excellent health care totheir clients with both hospitals having extended carefacilities.

Education is a high priority in Washington County with a 1-to-11teacher-to-student ratio. There are 3 1/2 school districts in thecounty with four high schools, five grade schools and one junior highschool. Two parochial schools complete the educational system. Countystudents consistently rank high on national scholastic tests. Thereare several nursery schools serving preschool children and aHeadstart program.

Law Enforcement for the county is provided by the Washington CountySheriff's Department. A sheriff, undersheriff and five patrolmenserve the county.

Housing is available at moderate rates when purchased. Some rentalhousing is available across the county. Senior citizen housingincludes 150 units in eight communities.

Electricity is served by Energy One, with the exception ofelectricity in the City of Washington. Washington City has thecapacity to produce its own electricity, with a back-up of WestPlains Energy. Washington County is served by KPL Gas Service forgas.

Water is derived from wells in all of the communities, which alsohave their own Sewage Disposal lagoons.

Telephone Companies serving the county include Southwestern Bell,Twin Valley Telephone, United Telephone, and Blue Valley Telephone.Some fiberoptic cable is available in the county.

Cable TV is available in most of the communities.
