The Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the 9-month long construction project.
Pool Manager Mary Ann Crome said over 350 people attended the festivities, and many of them stayed to swim, in spite of the cool weather.
Continental Pools, Inc., of Gardner, KS, began work on the project following the last day of the 2009 swimming season, and work was completed right on time for the annual Memorial Day weekend opening of the facility.
Special thanks and recognition to the members of the Public Building Commission and the Pool Committee members for all of their hard work and dedication to the project.
Public Building Commission members include Mike Uhlrich, Shirley Marrs, Jerry Scheve, and Lila Keesecker.
Pool Committee members included Traci Hattesohl, Dan Thalmann, Lila Keesecker, Denise Powell, Caroline Scoville, Leca Good, Gina Miller, Tony Miller, Paul Drush, Jerry Scheve, Shirley Marrs, Sharon Huband, Charlie Talbott, Cherrie Jonte, and Dale Bond.
The Pool Committee would like to thank the community as well for their support. Co-chair Leca Good said, "I never thought my kids would be able to enjoy the new pool. I thought this would be a very long process, and way in the future. But thanks to our progressive-thinking community we were able to get it completed in a very short amount of time. Our community showed that they care about the young children, and attracting young families to our community."
Special thanks to Tim Schook, former Washington city administrator, for being instrumental in getting this project off the ground, and to Kurt Hassler, current Washington city adminstrator, for overseeing the project through to the end.
The City Crew and other hired contractors constructed a new pool house in the fall of 2000. The facility features two inside restrooms, showers, lockers and changing area, a concessions/office area and two outside restrooms complete with showers. The outside restrooms are accessible to visitors and campers utilizing the City's park and campsite. The campsite is located at the south end of the City's park. The facilities are handicapped accessible.
The pool is being managed by Mary Ann Crome, and assistant manager Erin Rengstorf.
