April 25  -- City of Washington Clean-up day.  Washington County Landfill will be accepting trash free of charge April 25-27. City crews will pick up April 25 ONLY!

ITEMS MUST BE AT THE CURB BY 8AM THURSDAY, APRIL 25.

CITY OF WASHINGTON CREWS WILL ONLY MAKE ONE PICKUP BEGINNING  April 25!  ANYTHING NOT OUT AT THE CURB WHEN THE CREWS GO BY WILL NOT BE PICKED UP!

City crews will pick up appliances, furniture, mattresses, box springs, computers, etc. that are placed at the curb free of charge.  These items may also be taken to the County Landfill free of charge on these days.  This pickup DOES NOT INCLUDE normal household trash, tires, and construction and demolition material.  Household hazardous waste must be taken to Washington County Solid Waste at 812 B Street.  City Crews will make only one pickup starting at the south end of town and working their way north.  Residents in need of special arrangements must call City Hall at 325.2284 PRIOR to April 24 AT NOON so arrangements can be made.    

IF YOUR ITEMS ARE NOT PICKED UP BY APRIL 26 AT 1 PM, CALL CITY HALL. OTHERWISE YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE IT OUT TO THE LANDFILL YOURSELF.

 

May 2 -- 5:00-6:00 pm. Rabies clinic @ 4-H Building. Rabies & Distemper vaccinations may be obtained as well as City dog/cat licenses. One year rabies shots will be $10.00; two-year rabies shots will be $18.00 Distemper shots will be $20.00; city licenses will be $10.00 per male/female animal and $5.00 for unsexed animals. Licenses are required for all dogs/cats in the city limits, and due June 1. Any licenses purchased after June 1 are subject to late charge of $15.00.

May 3 - 7 pm. May Fete. Washington County High School.

May 5 -- Cinco de Mayo

May 9 - Limb/brush clean-up. City crews will pick up limbs/brush. MUST be placed parallel and as close to the curb as possible. Limbs must be less than 12 feet long and less than 14 inches in diameter. City crews will make ONE trip through town, beginning at the south end and working north. Crews WILL NOT PICK UP WHOLE TREES.

You may also dispose of your limb/brush waste at the City limb/brush disposal site free of charge.

May 12 -- Mother's Day.

May 27 -- City Office Closed in honor of Memorial Day. 

May 30-June 1  -- Hanover Days of '49. Parade, dance, entertainment and food. For more information call 785.337.2224.

July 4 -- Washington Fourth of July Celebration. Events will take place in Washington’s City Park.  Washington Swimming Pool will offer FREE SWIMMING from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. 

July 4 -- Haddam Fourth of July celebration.  Begins at 8 p.m.  Homemade Ice cream, ball games, fireworks.

July 4 -- Mahaska Fourth of July Celebration. Games begin at 6 p.m.,  ice cream social at 7 p.m., Fireworks begin at dark.  For more information contact Barb Livingston at 785-245-3291.

July 16-21 -- Washington County Fair. The fair is a county 4-H fair and features lots of exhibits, livestock shows, carnival, parade and more. For more information contact the Washington County Extension Office, 785.325.2121.

July 19 - Washington County Fair Parade. Begins at 6:30pm.

July 20 -- Jayhusker Races, Washington Speedway. 7 p.m.

July 27 -- Relay for Life.  The Washington County Relay for Life will be held at the Washington County High School track.  The event will start at 4 p.m. and run until 4 a.m. the next day.  For more information contact Lori Beikmann.

August   -- Haddam Frontier Days. Parade  Saturday, open theme;   co-ed sand volley ball tournament all day;  kids games begin at 10 a.m. at the platform;  entertainment at 7:30 p.m., pork supper a la carte; and dance from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.  Sunday morning church services begin at 10:45 a.m. at Methodist Church.  Golf tournament on Sunday.  For more information call 785.778.2818.

September 21  - Seventh Annual Fall FestSponsored by First National Bank. Events include kids' games, bike rodeo, car show, food, drinks, Mud Drags, and many more.  All day event. 

September 22  -- First Day of Autumn
