Washington County Landfill will be accepting trash free of charge these three days. *CITY OF WASHINGTON CREWS WILL ONLY MAKE ONE PICKUP BEGINNING April ! ANYTHING NOT OUT AT THE CURB WHEN THE CREWS GO BY WILL NOT BE PICKED UP!* City crews will pick up appliances, furniture, mattresses, box springs, computers, etc. that are placed at the curb free of charge. These items may also be taken to the County Landfill free of charge on these three days. This pickup DOES NOT INCLUDE normal household trash, tires, and construction and demolition material. Household hazardous waste must be taken to Washington County Solid Waste at 812 B Street. City Crews will make only one pickup starting at the south end of town at 6:30 am working their way north. Residents in need of special arrangements must call City Hall at 325.2284 PRIOR to April AT NOON so arrangements can be made. NOTICE: City of Washington residents may take tree limbs, brush, and yard waste to the Washington County Landfill at any time during normal business hours FREE OF CHARGE! April -- Firemen's Annual Yard Sale. 7am-1pm at the Emergency Services Building located at 900 D Street, across from the big ball diamond. If you wish to donate please call 325.2625 or by . Proceeds will be used for the purchase of fire and rescue equipment.
May -- Limb/brush clean-up. City crews will pick up limbs/brush. All debris must be placed parallel and as close to the curb as possible. July 4 -- Washington Fourth of July Celebration. Events will take place in Washington’s City Park and include , food stand with lunch served from 11 am-1 pm and ice cream from 7pm until the fireworks start, children's fishing contest at the dam, sand volleyball tournament, and fireworks at dark. Pre-registration required for volleyball. Washington Swimming Pool will offer FREE SWIMMING from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information contact Jerry Alldredge at 785. 325.3187. The Washington Fire Department is currently seeking donations for their annual fireworks display. Independence Farms, Inc. presents a Fun Horse show, including events such as: Obstacle course, rescue race, boot race, doubles barrels, barrels, relay race, dizzy izzy horse race, stick horse race, egg race, pole bending, four in line poles, ride a buck! Directions: From the 15-36 Truckstop corner south of Morrowville, go to the 2nd Corner West on Highway 36 (not a full 2 miles), then turn left onto Indian Rd. and go 2 miles South, then turn Right onto 15th Rd. (Old Coleman Center School Corner) and go 3/4 miles west. When you turn west you will see the lights ahead in the distance. "The Lights Are On". Call (785)265-3538 for more information.
